COURSE DETAILS
This course is comprised of 3 nationally accredited units of competency:
G1 RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes
G8 RIIWHS301E – Conduct safety and Health Investigations
G9 RIICOM301E – Communicate Information
It has been designed for mining site safety representatives and supervisors to enhance their safety qualifications. Successful participants will have a clear understanding of the relevant acts and regulations and the legal responsibilities for OH&S.
Participants will learn how to conduct safety investigations and formulate reports and risk management processes. ISH24 has designed this course in consultation with our mining clients to ensure that the training materials and the assessment methods are relevant to each individual client and mine site. The objective of each course is to equip participants with in-depth knowledge and hands-on skills to apply to their specific workplace.
COURSE CONTENT
The following subjects will be covered as part of the training:
RIIRIS301E – Apply Risk Management Processes (G1, formerly S1)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply risk management processes in the mining, drilling and civil infrastructure industry.
This unit applies to individuals who contribute to applying risk management processes as part of their responsibilities. This could be an employer, line manager, supervisor, safety representative or employee. This unit applies to those who carry out or assist in carrying out risk assessment in the workplace.
Core Elements:

- Plan and prepare for risk management
- Identify and assess unacceptable risk
- Identify and recommend risk controls
- Contribute to the implementation of risk controls
- Review risk management documentation
RIIWHS301E – Conduct Safety & Health Investigations (G8, formerly S2)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply risk management processes in the mining, drilling, and civil infrastructure industry.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct work related health and safety investigations as a result of an incident and to contribute to a safe workplace. It applies to individuals who participate in work related health and safety investigations as part of their responsibilities.

- Evaluate information

- Prepare and present investigation reports
RIICOM301E – Communicate Information (G9, formerly S3)
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate information to complete work activities within the mining, drilling, and civil infrastructure industry. It includes planning and preparing for and conducting communication via several different methods to ensure work activities are understood.
This unit applies to individuals who are working in an operational, supervisory or team leader capacity.

- Develop and perform work activity presentation
- Participate in resolving conflicts
DURATION
2 full days (approximately 8 hours each)
DELIVERY MODE
Face to face
There are no pre-reading requirements. All content is covered in class as part of the training.
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Students will be required to complete a written theory assessment as well as a practical demonstration assessment.
Theory Assessment
Mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions. Student will be required to write down their own answers.

Practical Assessment
Practical assessments will include a mixture of independent assessments and group activities. Students will be required to demonstrate the following:
- conducting risk assessment and hazard identification exercises
- identifying and recommending controls
- contributing to the successful implementation of controls
- participating in work related health and safety investigations that safely, effectively and efficiently follows workplace procedures
- creating an investigation plan
- planning and organising activity to gather evidence and data
- undertaking research to gather evidence and data
- engaging others in the investigation process
- drawing conclusions and identifying appropriate course of action to resolve issue
- communicating outcomes to relevant individuals and/or parties via report and presentation
- communicating and conveying work activity information
- ensuring communicated tasks are completed
- clarifying the purpose of the task with work team
- participating in conflict resolution meetings
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Course Pre-Requisite
No formal pre-requisite requirements apply.
Age Requirements
Students must be 16 years of age or older. Participants under 18 years of age will be required to provide parental consent to attend training.
However, given the advanced nature of this training content being designed for individuals currently holding or seeking out Supervisory positions, this training would generally not be suitable for younger learners with no prior on-site experience. Please give us a call on 1300 001 201 if you have any questions about whether this training is right for you.
Fitness Requirements
There are no specific fitness requirements for the training and assessment of these units.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Sound reading and writing skills required to undertake the written assessment. Reasonable adjustment may be applicable on a case-by-case basis. Please get in contact with us if you have any questions regarding the minimum LLN requirements.

Suitable Clothing

How often should I complete G189 training?
G1 G8 G9 competency does not formally have an expiry date.
Check with your employer and your site policies what your required re-training timeframe is.

Yes! We can definitely deliver workplace training. Please give us a call at 1300 001 201 to discuss your training needs further and receive a quote for on-site training.
Do you take large group bookings for G1 G8 G9 training?
Currently, any courses delivered at our training facilities are capped at 10-12 students per class.
For on-site training, we may be able to deliver training to larger groups; however, that is dependent on the type of training being delivered and the size of the available facilities.

Influenza and COVID-19 Management
The health and wellbeing of our personnel and fellow students at ISH24 is our number one priority.
ISH24 will continue to deliver training in a face-to-face environment with the following measures in place:
- Face masks are available to all students upon request
- Hand sanitisation products are available to all visitors
- Thorough cleaning procedures are implemented at all training facilities
- Ad hoc safety measures might be implemented in response to rise in infections or based on recommendations from regulatory and governing bodies
We ask that students also follow basic hygiene and safety precautions while completing training with ISH24.
We continue to closely monitor the constantly evolving situation surrounding coronavirus and will amend our service delivery procedures to stay in line with the advice of the Australian Government.
