NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework for the following unit(s) of competency:
UETDRMP006 Perform pole top rescue
UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
COURSE DETAILS
ISH24 deliver training in UETDRMP006 Perform pole top rescue in conjunction with the added pre-requisite UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace.
This unit covers the performance of pole top rescue procedures as an emergency procedure required in the workplace.
Our pole top rescue course includes the mandatory requirements of rescue from a pole top and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution and rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for rescue, health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.
Mandatory pre-requisite:
Students enrolling into this unit must hold current competency in HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and
UETDREL005 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
COURSE CONTENT
The following subjects will be covered as part of the training:
Prepare to perform pole toprescue
- Instruction in hazards and risk control measures for specific work functions and work areas are identified and obtained (This will include the risk assessment and control measures taken by the individual performing the rescue)
- Tools and emergency equipment are checked for safety, functionality and placed in an accessible location to facilitate response and rescue according to established procedures
Carry out pole top rescue
- Workplace procedures and work instructions for controlling risk are followed
- Workplace procedures for accessing the pole top and removing the victim, where necessary, from contact with live apparatus are followed
- Workplace procedures for attaching the emergency lowering equipment and lowering the victim to the ground are followed
- Workplace procedures for carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), if required, at the site and treatment, where necessary, by medical professionals are followed
- The worksite is secured and entry controlled until appropriate authorities inspect and release the site
Complete the pole top rescue procedure
- Processes for reporting to accidents and/or incidents to authorised personnel are confirmed in accordance with established procedures
DURATION
1 half-day course (approximately 5 hours)
DELIVERY MODE
Face to face
There are no pre-reading requirements. All content is covered in class as part of the training.
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Students will be required to complete a written theory assessment as well as a practical demonstration assessment.
Theory Assessment
Mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions. Student will be required to write down their own answers.

Practical Assessment
Each student will be required to participate in at least one practical scenario which will assess their ability to:
- apply relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, including the use of risk control measures
- inspect and placing rescue equipment
- perform pole top rescue in accordance with workplace procedures.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Course Pre-Requisite
Students enrolling into this unit must hold current competency in HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and
UETDREL005 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
Age Requirements
Students must be 16 years of age or older. Participants under 18 years of age will be required to provide parental consent to attend training.
Fitness Requirements
Students must be relatively fit and able to perform the activities outlined in the Assessment Requirements in order to be accurately assessed and deemed competent.
Given the nature of the practical assessment, students must be at a minimum fit to climb and crawl, and not have a fear of heights.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Sound reading and writing skills required to undertake the written assessment. Reasonable adjustment may be applicable on a case-by-case basis. Please get in contact with us if you have any questions regarding the minimum LLN requirements.

FAQ & ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Can you deliver CPR & pole top rescue together?
Yes, we can customise the training delivery to each client’s needs and can definitely include both HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation as well as UETDRMP007 Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel and UETDRRF003 Perform pole top rescue into one full-day course (approximately 8 hours).

How often should I complete pole top rescue training?
Pole top rescue competency does not formally have an expiry date.
However, it is best practice to refresh your training every 12 months (or in line with your workplace procedures).
The “refresher” training is also a half-day course.

Can you provide pole top rescue training within our workplace?
Yes! We can definitely deliver workplace training. Please give us a call at 1300 001 201 to discuss your training needs further and receive a quote for on-site training.
Do you take large group bookings for pole top rescue training?
Currently, any courses delivered at our training facilities are capped at 10-12 students per class.
For on-site training, we may be able to deliver training to larger groups; however, that is dependent on the type of training being delivered and the size of the available facilities.

Influenza and COVID-19 Management
The health and wellbeing of our personnel and fellow students at ISH24 is our number one priority.
ISH24 will continue to deliver training in a face-to-face environment with the following measures in place:
- Face masks are available to all students upon request
- Hand sanitisation products are available to all visitors
- Thorough cleaning procedures are implemented at all training facilities
- Ad hoc safety measures might be implemented in response to rise in infections or based on recommendations from regulatory and governing bodies
We ask that students also follow basic hygiene and safety precautions while completing training with ISH24.
We continue to closely monitor the constantly evolving situation surrounding coronavirus and will amend our service delivery procedures to stay in line with the advice of the Australian Government.
