This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate in roles where they are required to perform work at heights. This course is designed to meet the requirements from the Resources and Infrastructure Industries training package, RII09.
Learners will understand how to identify work requirements, plan and prepare for working at heights. Additionally, learners will be able to recognise the correct access equipment required and ensure correct installation. Learners will understand how to work at heights as well as clean up after works.
This course is essential for people who are required to perform works at heights in the course of their employment.
This course prepares learners to undertake the assessment to obtain a Statement of Attainment in RIIWHS204D Working safely at heights.
Mode of Delivery
Delivery of this course will be classroom based blended with some practical activities.
The learner will be assessed by demonstrating procedures applicable to this unit. They will also be required to answer a number of written questions regarding their actions and theoretical application of knowledge. The practical assessments will be simulated activities.
This assessment will be conducted by an RTO assessor and must be completed in the workplace or in another environment that accurately simulates the workplace. The assessor will observe the learner while these tasks are being performed.
To standardise the application of this assessment, the assessment tasks (performance evidence) are based on those specified in the Unit of Competency, RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights and those of the RII09 Training Package. The assessor will use an assessment instrument mapped accordingly to the assessment requirements of this Unit of Competency. Assessors will apply an assessment procedure to ensure you are ready for the assessment and have the right resources and equipment to achieve the right standard.
Identifying work requirements including managing potential risks and hazards.
Identifying work procedures and instructions including equipment selection and inspection.
Access and install equipment including correctly adjusted anchor fall protection.
Performing work at heights including safe access, risk control measures and fall zone perimeters.
Utilising appropriate safety equipment correctly.
Completing the works, clean up and correct storage of equipment
On successfully completing the training and assessment you will be issued a Statement of Attainment issuing you the unit of competency: RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights.
This unit of competency is nationally recognised and provides individuals with a valuable outcome that can be applied throughout Australia.
Course Duration and Location
The course is delivered over one 8.5 hr day.
Training is delivered at Bendigo, Perth, Kalgoorlie and Onsite.
Learner training is supported through the provision of quality learning materials and resources.
On arriving, learners will complete any outstanding enrolment administration and then participate in group learning activities about the theory of working at heights. After lunch we finish off our theory component and then put what is learnt into practice via our practical component. There is sufficient time over the day for additional one-on-one training for those requiring it.
At ISH24 Pty Ltd we provide a friendly and supported environment to learn and achieve.
Learners are required to wear long or short sleeves. Long pants and enclosed safety boots/shoes.
Where a learner does not wear enclosed shoes they will not be able to participate in the course due to work health and safety concerns.
There are no qualification pre-requisites for this course.
Learners must be aged 18 years or older.
Photo Identification is required to be sited prior to course commencement.
Language, literacy and numeracy skills required to interpret legislative requirements and to undertake written and practical assessment activities.
